Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. (1943–1993) was a prominent American tennis player and activist. He was the first African-American tennis player to win the US Open and Wimbledon. Ashe used his fame to fight against racism and social injustice. He was also active in the fight against apartheid in South Africa and advocated for HIV/AIDS awareness after contracting the virus himself.
