Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau was born in 1889 in Maisons-Laffitte near Paris and died in 1963 in Milly-la-Forêt. He published his first poems at the age of 17, and his first poetry collections appeared in 1909. In addition to literature, he worked in film, painting, and ballet.
