Born in 1766 in Paris, Germaine de Staël is considered a pioneer of literary sociology and comparative literary studies. Originating from the Republic of Geneva, her most read work was ‚De l’Allemagne‘, which influenced French perceptions of the German-speaking neighboring countries in the 19th century. She died in Paris in 1817.
